Sometimes referred to as bimetal bearings, these bearings traditionally have a bronze backing with centrifugally cast babbitt lining.  The babbitt lining provides superior embeddability and conformability against misalignments or foreign debris in the oil stream.  Designers considering this bearing type must pay close attention to loading and fatigue strength of the babbitt.  While this is a very forgiving material and has the highest reserve properties, it has the lowest fatigue strength.
