Dry film lubricants (DFL) provide additional ‘reserve’ properties when applied on journal bearings. These coatings are generally high in Molybdenum Disulfide and PTFE, with other minor constituents. They are intended to reduce the coefficient of friction and provide alternative lubrication when oil-based lubrication becomes marginalized. DFL’s are generally applied as two phase materials that require a curing process promoting adhesion to the substrate.
